Anxiety

Anxiety is a part of being human. People experience anxiety in many different forms. Sometimes anxiety is experienced more in the body, and can be a result of certain habits and lifestyle factors. Sometimes anxiety points us to what matters to us, for example, social anxiety can point us to how much we care about relationships and connections. Your unique experience is important, and our work together will focus on the nuances, as well as the big picture of how your anxiety has been functioning in your life.

Highly Sensitive People

I enjoy working with highly sensitive people. Individuals with a lot of really strong emotions and big feelings that are hard to manage. Individuals who have been described like this or have these experiences will oftentimes be labeled with diagnoses such as borderline personality disorder, bipolar, or autistic. I am not a clinician who likes to put you in a box or label you in this way. You are more than a diagnosis. I find it more helpful to focus on your specific struggles, and specific skills that can help with those struggles. It is important to me that you feel heard, valued, and validated in your experience.

Individual therapy (50-60 minutes)

At this time, I only provide individual therapy for adolescents (13+) and adults (18+) living in South Carolina. While I have a background in assessments and can provide one upon request, I typically start people with a 60-minute individual session, as the effectiveness of therapy is highly dependent on the therapeutic relationship. This allows us to get started more quickly, and focus our efforts where you need it the most. Before your first session, you complete a few intake questionnaires to help guide our conversation and give background info, and also to give a baseline of symptoms that we can reflect back to and track progress.

Methods

My practice is informed by the following methods, tailored to your specific life and unique needs, under a process-based approach.

Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)

A therapy rooted in mindfulness that helps you stay present and work towards acceptance and commitment to values-based living

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

A therapy used to target self-injury, suicidal behaviors, difficulties with emotion regulation, substance abuse, and post-traumatic stress disorder. It involves skill building specifically in areas of mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness, and can be helpful for many people struggling in these areas as well as others

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

A therapy based on the notion that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are all interconnected and change in any one of them can influence change in all of them

Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)

A trauma-specific therapy focused on thoughts and beliefs that may be keeping you “stuck”

Transdiagnostic Behavioral Therapy (TBT)

A newer therapy focused on avoidance behaviors common among people struggling with depression, traumatic memories, and anxiety

Mindful Self-Compassion

A practice that combines mindfulness with self-compassion to help with emotional resilience, by helping you be kinder to yourself and others.
